To celebrate the new year, and properly say goodbye to the old one, we’ve composed a list of the most anticipated albums of 2021. Grab a pen and paper – or maybe just bookmark this tab – because you’re not going to want to miss any of these soon to be released LPs.

Arlo Parks - Most Anticipated Albums of 2021

Arlo Parks – Collapsed in Sunbeams

Release Date: January 29

We are big fans of Arlo Parks and have been eagerly waiting for the release of her debut album Collapsed in Sunbeams. Parks’ style of music is somewhere between dreamy R&B and bedroom pop. Think Raveena meets H.E.R. The album will feature many songs we are already obsessed with including “Green Eyes,” a summery track about a passionate but short romance, featuring vocals from another one of our favorite artists, Clairo. Collapsed in Sunbeams promises to be a perfect dreamy album to start off the new year.

London Grammar - Most Anticipated Albums of 2021

London Grammar – California Soil

Release Date: April 9

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been listening to “Baby It’s You” by London Grammar on repeat since October, and you’re excited for London Grammmar’s upcoming album California Soil to finally be released. Originally set for this February, the band recently announced that they had to push the date to April. Luckily for us, they gave us another amazing track to hold us over. “Lose Your Head” is as good as “Baby It’s You.” A guaranteed bop, you’re sure to have it on loop all month long.

Julien Baker - Most Anticipated Albums of 2021

Julien Baker – Little Oblivions

Release Date: February 26

It’s been a long four years since Julien Baker released her last album Turn Out the Lights, so we are especially enthusiastic about her upcoming third album Little Oblivions. Baker gave us a sneak peek to the project with “Faith Healer,” an introspective song about addiction and searching for healing. When she announced the album, Baker didn’t post an artist bio; instead, she announced the album alongside an essay written by author Hanif Abdurraqibh, one stand-out line being if you are lucky enough to have a future where the present anxieties of distance become romantic memories, I hope there are people who turn this album over in their hands years from now and remember the world it tumbled into.” Needless to say, we can’t wait to enter this alternate reality.

slowthai - Most Anticipated Albums of 2021

slowthai – TYRON

Release Date: February 5, 2021

slowthai’s second album TYRON earns a well-deserved spot on this list. The British rapper has been releasing a new single from the album each month, often accompanied by a conversation-sparking music video (like the one for “feel away, which depicts slowthai giving birth). His sophomore album features a number of notable artists including A$AP Rocky, James Blake, Dominic Fike, and Denzel Curry, but we’re mostly excited for slowthai’s gritty vocals and hypnotic beats that made us a fan of him in the first place.

Wild Pink - Most Anticipated Albums of 2021

Wild Pink – A Billion Little Lights

Release Date: February 19, 2021

Bringing some introspection into the new year, New York’s Wild Pink are set to release their third album, A Billion Little Lights. Wild Pink gave us a hint of what to expect in “The Shining but Tropical” which includes everything from lighthearted themes to existential crises like the sudden realization of how large the world is and how unimportant we are. Luckily, we’ll have more Wild Pink to listen to while contemplating these truths this February.

Goat Girl - Most Anticipated Albums of 2021

Goat Girl – On All Fours

Release Date: January 29

Another album we’re excited for is Goat Girl’s sophomore release, On All Fours. The South London band’s second LP features their unique synthetic pop style while dealing with real issues including injustice, social prejudices, and environmentalism. For instance, the futuristic psychedelic track “The Crack” imagines a hyper-realistic dystopian world where people are forced to find a new planet to live on due to the depletion of earth’s resources. The ‘70’s retro-futuristic style of “The Crack” indicates Goat Girl’s upcoming album will be full of interesting tunes and clever lyrics that we can’t wait to dissect.

Bleachers – Unknown

Release Date: TBD

We might not know much about indie-pop band Bleachers upcoming album beyond the fact that it is supposed to come out sometime this year, but that doesn’t make us any less excited. Antonoff and co. released two new singles — “‘45” and “chinatown” — the latter which features fellow New Jerseyite Bruce Springsteen. Both songs are emblematic of the ‘80’s and ‘90s inspired indie-pop the band is known for, although seem bit softer and more introspective than their previous songs.

Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X – Unknown

Release Date: TBD

It’s hard to believe that Lil Nas X still hasn’t released his first album given how ubiquitous his name has become. Luckily, we don’t have to wait long. The rapper is set to release his debut album in 2021, which he claims will be “the best album of all time.” While it is unknown which songs will actually be featured on the album, Lil Nas X’s most recently dropped single “Holiday” shows that the rapper’s musical prowess just keeps getting stronger.

Tierra Whack

Tierra Whack – Unknown

Release Date: TBD

Okay, this one is more of a wish than a confirmed rumor, but we are hoping that by speaking its existence into the universe, it will come true. Tierra Whack, who you may recognize from the 2020 Apple holiday commercial “The Magic of Mini,” released three solo singles at the end of last year, including the total addicting “Peppers and Onions.” She stated in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to be prepared in 2021, because she’s “coming back bigger, better, stronger, and just wiser.” That’s enough of a confirmation for us- we’ll look forward to your 2021 album Tierra!
