A group formed as an antidote to the present day, Easy Life‘s unpredictable path has confirmed their potential as the most essential modern band. From stocking clothes in your favorite retail store to working on a farm in the UK, the members of Easy Life take the band’s name seriously. But never too seriously, of course.

“Easy Life is a form of escapism,” says frontman Murray Matravers. “Living is proving to be increasingly difficult with all the pressures that modern life brings, and Easy Life rejects this materialistic philosophy. When we coined the name there was a lot less thinking involved, but it feels like we have embodied the name over time rather than setting out from day one knowing exactly what it is we were looking for.”

What Should I Listen To First?

Earlier this year, Easy Life released their latest album Junkfood, but the band didn’t stop their 2020 there. Between quarantine covers, demos and new singles, they’ve been blessing fans with new music around the clock. We recommend checking out their latest singles ‘Nightmares’ (featured in HBO’s hit show I May Destroy You) and ‘Pop Tarts’ to jumpstart your new obsession.

Meet Easy Life.

Where are you right now?

I’m currently holed up in my one bed flat in London. I’ve been here for like 3 months solid writing the album. It’s been emotional.

What is your favorite drink?

That’s such a difficult question. It all depends entirely on the occasion. In the morning it has to be coffee, black and piping hot and lots of it. When cocktails are appropriate, I have to say a margarita with no salt. The salt bit has always freaked me out a little bit for some reason. I prefer to leave the salt for my fish and chips. Obviously, if you’re feeling dehydrated then just water. Water is such an underrated drink, it’s so damn good. In fact, I’d probably put water as the number 1 and that’s not being boring that’s just being realistic. We all need water.

What is your favorite dish?

Got to be a Sunday roast dinner cooked by my mum. There is nothing like home cooked food, the occasional family argument and a good old fashioned glug of gravy.

What would be your dream collaboration?

I’d like to hang out with Picasso for the afternoon. He seems chill. And he has a sausage dog which is a massive bonus.

What was the last thing you texted your best friend?

My dad sent me a video of his pet duck Banana this morning. It’s super cute. He always sends me pics and videos of him eating his breakfast so yeah that was the last text I sent. Riveting stuff.

Who will play you in the movie about your life?

Javier Bardem cause he’s so god damn sexy and mysterious.

Screenshot your last food order.

I don’t even have one of these 🙁 . I literally never get takeaway. It’s so expensive and I live above a LIDL supermarket so literally always cook. Also, I love cooking. When we sell a million records maybe I’ll treat myself to a Wagamamas.

You’ve been treating fans to a lot of new music this year. What can we expect from you guys for the remainder of 2020?

Currently working on the album so hopefully be dropping that pretty soon. We might release a new song next week just depends. We literally just put music out whenever it’s ready so yeah I guess it largely depends on how much material we are able to produce. Album soon though, I promise.

You guys have a lot of love for your hometown. Tell us your favorite part about Leicester.

Best thing about Leicester is how friendly everyone is. I think that’s the same for the whole east midlands to be fair, people smile and say things like ‘ey up me duck’ (hello) and ‘ ow e ya cocker’ (how you doing mate). It’s glorious.

You mentioned that your goal is to achieve world domination with your music. What would the world look like if led by Easy Life?

Free weed for everyone.

You released a lockdown version “peanut butter.” How did the group approach making music together during quarantine?

We have often made music remotely since the beginning of Easy Life so it was a breeze really. Loads of our songs are born on laptops rather than the traditional format of ‘jamming in a room’ so it didn’t really change anything for us.

What inspired you guys to create your private Facebook group, ez crew (easy life fan community)?

We wanted a safe place for fans to connect with us and each other. There is a real family vibe amongst our fans and we want to nurture that ethos. It is also great for my ego. Win win.
