Atlanta-based R&B artist 6LACK returns with a pair of new tracks to follow up 2018’s album East Atlanta Love Letter.  6LACK turns to the Toronto sound blazoned by Drake and Partynextdoor rather than sticking to the sound of his Atlanta contemporaries; snares are still in full effect, but the spacing and tempo is given room to breathe, placing more emphasis on the vocals and lyricism.

“Been A While” finds 6LACK talking shit over a minimalist, slowed-down trap instrumental. The Atlanta star creates a melody of different interpretations of the beat to form a vocal mosaic. Lyrically, 6LACK covers familiar ground, posturing and telling an ex she made a mistake. The track feels like several different songs rolled into one — but 6LACK maintains the low-key vibe crucial to the sound’s ethos.
