The release date of Wild Nothing‘s sophomore album, Nocturne, is inching closer and closer, and judging from “Paradise” that date can’t come soon enough. The lush, dreamy synths recall the best of Depeche Mode while the light, undistorted guitars and deep, rich vocals can be traced straight back to Joy Division. Not all modern bands that are playing around with 80s sounds get it right, but Wild Nothing takes fantastic source materials and melds them into an addictive, beautiful new whole. The track is full of dancy grooves, slick beats and pure, unadulterated longing, epitomized by Jack Tatum’s only two lines in the entire song: “Dancer in the night/Playing with my eyes/Velvet tongue so sweet/Say anything you like/Crush me with the lie/Tell me once or twice/That love is paradise/Love is paradise.

Nocturne will be released on August 28 via Captured Tracks.
