Theme Park – Two Hours
It’s Friday. You made it. And we have the perfect reward for you, so take a three-minute break from whatever you’re pretending to work on and have a listen to this new outfit out of London. Unless you’re just blatantly planning out your weekend at your desk, in which case, we also have this for you.
Theme park started generating buzz in late 2011 with “Milk,” one of the few singles I’ve ever heard that lived up to the Talking Heads comparisons it drew. The band members are young, no older than 21, so we can expect their sound to continue along its rapidly maturing trajectory. Hearing frontman Miles Haughton’s vocals for the first time is like sitting down next to an impeccably dressed GQ model-type on an airplane and wondering, “What on earth is this person doing sitting in coach?” Without the understood indignity, but absolutely including the internal freakouts and attempts to keep yourself from gushing.
For now, it doesn’t look like these boys are boarding any planes in the near future (at least not of the trans-Atlantic variety). Their current tour dates slant 100% British, but apparently their debut album is due out sometime this spring, so let’s hope that propels them this way. In the meantime, finish your week strong with “Two Hours.” You earned it!
