The Weeknd’s Abel Tesfaye does his menacing, sexy thing on “Enemy,” the new track that’s mysteriously absent from the upcoming Trilogy. The much-hyped Trilogy is a compilation of Tesfaye’s three previously released mixtapes (House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence) plus a few new tracks. The absence of “Enemy” is a bit unorthodox, but it doesn’t make the track any less alluring. Keeping with Tesfaye’s signature sampling prowess, the track features snippets of the Smiths’ 1984 B-side “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.” The not-so-subtle juxtaposition of Morrisey’s pleading for love with Tesfaye’s pleading for an easy one-night stand makes the track even more intriguing.
The Weeknd’s Trilogy drops November 13 via Republic.
