The Killers are back and more visually stripped-down than ever. “Runaways” is the lead single from Battle Born, the band’s first new album in four years, and one that sees them trading ornate costumes and elaborate sets for simple, stimulating imagery. The song is an anthemic slice of Americana with lyrics reminiscent of Springsteen and Petty. The supporting video is primarily a performance, with swirling bright lights and a sprawling highway. Although “Runaways” definitely shows a more mature version of The Killers, fans will be glad to know the band hasn’t lost the exaggerated choruses and emotional grandeur that made it famous. Pick up Battle Born when it’s released on September 18 via Island Def Jam Records.
