The Juan Maclean returns after a two-year hiatus with a new single entitled “You Are My Destiny.” The song, co-written by Nancy Whang, feels like a natural progression for the longtime DFA artist; his sound started with a similar feel to LCD’s self-titled debut and has developed a deeper electronic aura. In fact, James Murphy had a big influence on John and his return to the music business as The Juan Maclean in 2005. After a challenging 12-year run with his first band Six Finger Satellities, who disbanded in 2001, John became an English teacher in New Hampshire but remained friends with Murphy who had served as his band’s sound engineer. Murphy, whose label is named after the soundsystem he created for Six Finger Satellites, urged John to return to the business and I’m certainly glad he heeded his advice.

“You Are My Destiny” is out now on vinyl here and will be released digitally on April 9th via DFA with a remix by Nic Fanciulli. You can also stream an unedited version of the track here
