The Flaming Lips & Amanda Palmer – The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

Gather ‘round, children, to hear a story about collaborations gone terribly wrong. Back in June, the Flaming Lips released the first version of the video for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” a cover track from their new collaborative album, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. That track featured Erykah Badu’s voice, and the extremely NSFW video showed both she and her sister Nayrok writhing naked in glitter, water, blood and a suspicious looking white liquid. The video was taken down after Badu publicly reprimanded Lips frontman Wayne Coyne for releasing it without her approval.

The Flaming Lips are giving the Roberta Flack classic a second go, this time trading Badu for Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer. The new video features a naked Palmer splashing around in a bathtub. It’s not quite as controversial as its predecessor, but you might want to wait until after work to watch it.

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends, which features the likes of Neon Indian, Tame Impala and, uh, Ke$ha, is out now via Warner Bros.
