It’s clear after a quick run through of The 1975‘s online material that the Manchester outfit has a knack for versatile songwriting. A couple weeks ago the band dropped “The City,” an upbeat track not far off from the industrial-pop stylings of their compatriots in The Big Pink. The latest to surface from The 1975 camp is “Facedown,” the title track off their upcoming EP. The song, which you can stream via YouTube above, plays off like a male-led version of Imogen Heap’s “Hide And Seek,” with effect-laden vocals sung over instrumentals that borrow from both the light and darkest corners of Sigur Ros’ discography. Quite the contrast when compared to “The City,” but evidence of a talent that could seriously wow us in the coming months. The 1975′s Facedown EP is due out August 6th via Dirty Hit.
