Canadian twin indie-poppers Tegan and Sara cemented their move toward electro-pop with “Closer,” the first single from the upcoming full-length, Heartthrob. The second single, “I’m Not Your Hero,” still embraces synthesizers and drum machines but reaches back toward the heartfelt, earnest lyricism that made so many fall in love with them in the first place. Indeed, pull the plugs and substitute in an acoustic guitar and the track might seem at home on 2002′s If It Was You. Not all bands can survive the sonic evolution that this pair has undergone, but after all the changes from album to album it’s great to hear that despite added power and polish these sisters have kept their feet on the ground and their hearts on their sleeves.

Heartthrob will come out in January 2013 via Warner Bros.
