Taken By Trees is the solo project of Swedish native Victoria Bergsman, probably best known for her backing vocals on PB&J’s iconic “Young Folks” or her cover of Animal Collective’s “My Girls” back in 2010. After releasing two albums on Rough Trade that were relative successes, (especially in Pitchfork’s eyes) Bergsman jumped over to Secretly Canadian to put together hew newest effort, Other Worlds, which is due out on October 2nd. Bergsman recently mentioned that the new album is heavily influenced by the time she spent in Hawaii after 2009′s East of Eden release, and her new single, “Dreams,” is the gorgeous product of said experience. “The kind of dream I am referring to in this song is more like a sense of longing, a vision of a place where things are quiet, like floating in the ocean off of Hawaii,” said Bergsman in a recent interview with NPR. We often listen to music to capture that sense of nostalgia and balance we all inherently crave, and the breathy vocals and muted, undulating melody of “Dreams” locates that moment with ease, as if we’d heard the song a thousand times before in a half-remembered dream.
