Shout Out Louds – Illusions

Shout Out Louds have been a household name Stateside ever since their appearances on the venerable OC soundtrack series (RIP). Notable among indie pop acts for their staying power, the Stockholm outfit is known for taking lengthy breaks between albums and always come back with a fresh approach to their trade.

Judging from the first two tracks released off their impending fourth LP, Optica, it’s likely to be a mature, beautifully-crafted pop tour de force that leaves behind the teenage angst of earlier efforts. Lead single “Blue Ice” – the first 7″ to ever be pressed on ice – sounds like they’ve spent some time listening to Dan Bejar’s Destroyer project during their last hiatus. Like Kaputt, “Blue Ice” takes elements of indie, electro, jazz and soul and distills them down to a barebones pop arrangement with shimmering, crystal-clear production. This morning saw the release of “Illusions,” another track full of delicious melodies and retrofuturistic electropop production that recalls bands like Yeasayer and Superhumanoids. Stream it below.

Shout Out Louds’ Optica will be released February 26th via Merge.
