Mitch Murder is beloved among retro synth enthusiasts for Burning Chrome and Current Events, two albums that pay campy homage to 80s movie soundtracks and the Pacific Coast Highway mythos. With his brand new track “Feel the Air,” the Swedish producer transcends kitsch and delves into more accessible dance pop territory. Unlike many of Mitch’s previous 8-bit, nostalgia-laden romps, “Feel the Air” follows a traditional verse/chorus structure and incorporates the infectious vocals of Greek singer Kristine. While Kristine channels Chrissie Hynde and Kate Bush at times, her vocals are sincere and soulful enough to shoot down claims of imitation.

“Feel the Air” harkens back to a more innocent musical era, when artists weren’t afraid to make pretty music and sound like they were enjoying themselves; when TaB cola was the national beverage, jogging was a hot new sport and Tom Cruise was hip. That was all, admittedly, before I was born, but that doesn’t stop me from digging this song. Download “Feel The Air” below.
