When most people think of the harp in the modern era, they think of weddings, hotel lobbies, the mall, or, of course, angels. Mikaela Davis is setting out to change that perception. This blonde-haired lass from Rochester just released a video for her single “Dreaming” and it’s absolutely fantastic. Despite having graduated from high school two years ago, she sings with  a conscious melancholy that comes from coping with her father’s transcontinental move when she was 12. She introduced herself to the internet with  a majestic cover of Sufjan Steven’s Casimir Pulaski Day and has been wowing listeners ever since.

Her video matches the tone of her music; subtle complexity with dashes of her personality and a winding, circular narrative. It’s a treasure hunt in upstate New York that matches the quirkiness of the Harp without taking itself too seriously.
