The Swedes are coming! The Swedes are coming!

On March 27, your eardrums are in for a sweet surprise with the release of everyone’s favorite Swedish trio Miike Snow‘s new album, Happy to You. The guys just put out their latest single, “Black Tin Box”, which features fellow compatriot Lykke Li. As you probably can imagine from the title, the song is dark. Very dark. The drums are muffled, the vocals are haunted, the synths are pushed through a strange, otherworldly filter. You can certainly see this as the background music for a slow-motion chase scene in a horror movie. The lyrics match the mood of the song, featuring rounds of “black sheep”, “the edges were sharp” and a “hillside where they used to play”. While this isn’t as fun or upbeat as “Devil’s Work” or “Paddling Out”, it shows the extent of the trio’s range and expansion of their repertoire.
