Metronomy have written one of the best albums of the year with The English Riviera – a Mercury Prize nominated gem. For whatever reasons in the past (probable pictures like this), I wrote them off as a gimmicky electro band. With this most recent album they have proven me SO wrong. It’s brimming with thoughtful, well-composed and well developed electronic music with live instrumentation. There are three contenders for top song – “The Look”, “The Bay” and “She Wants”. The front runner right now is “The Bay” and that’s only because of this 1970′s spy movie inspired video that they’ve put together. Some things will never grow old in music videos, including playing instruments and singing in a moving convertible, girls in bikinis and helicopter shots of the coast – this has all of that.
