Having teased us with portions of the song for the past week, Manchester Orchestra finally decided to give us the first good taste of LP3 with the complete release of the title track, “Simple Math.” The Atlanta five-piece has never been a stranger to minimalism, but on “Simple Math” the Orchestra shies away from the usual raw, backwoods sound in favor of something a bit more grandiose and anthemic. That means replacing the crunchy guitars with, for the first time, strings. Andy Hull’s hallmark vocals are as good as ever, alternating between a soft, bluesy croon at the song’s most intimate moments to a powerful wail during a soaring bridge. There’s no doubt that “Simple Math” is a bit different than what we’re used to, but this lyrical look into infidelity shows the band perhaps at its strongest. Simple Math comes out May 10th on Favorite Gentlemen.

The band released a lyric video along with the track, which you can check out after the jump.
