M83 came to party Halloween weekend in Washington, DC. There were lasers, tall-boys, french accents, and of course massive synths courtesy of Anthony Gonzales — M83′s loyal leader. The first date of the frenchman’s stateside tour, which happened to be a double-header at the Black Cat, was utterly heart-stopping. After opening with three consecutive singles, including ”Midnight City” (which was a religious experience in itself), Gonzales settled the crowd and dove deep into his arsenal of ambient tunes. From there on out, the entire performance might as well have been one brilliant crescendo, culminating with an encore that included “Saturdays=Youth” and “Colours”. All in all, M83 was as anthemic as advertised and deserves a proper shot at 9:30 Club next time around. Check out more shots from photographer Julian Vu after the jump.
