Body Language, Belle & Sebastian, Poolside, Chairlift, the Avalanches, Camera Obscura, Yeasayer, Tanlines. If enjoy any of these bands, you may like Kisses. The LA-based duo, consisting of Princeton‘s Jesse Kivel and fashion blogger Zinzi Edmundson, makes tuneful tropical indie rock that’s at once bubbly and plaintive. Kisses’ new single “Funny Heartbeat” realizes a lot of the potential shown by their 2010 debut album, Heart of the Nightlife. Like the songs on that album, “Funny Heartbeat” has a gentle, romantic sensibility that recalls 1970s French pop and an airy, almost flamenco sound reminiscent of the Talking Heads’ classic “Nothing But Flowers”. Until we get word on a new Kisses album, you can download “Funny Heartbeat” below.
