Get Educated With Jerry:
Stephen Stills
I saw Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young the night in 1974 that Nixon resigned. I was working nights at Pathmark that summer and watching the Watergate hearings during the day. I got tickets for Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City for August 8 with no idea of what that day would turn out to be. As I remember it, just before the show started, Graham Nash walked out on stage and announced that “it’s all over,” Nixon had resigned. The concert turned into a tremendous celebration complete with fireworks.
There are groups from the 70′s that I probably won’t blog on because even you youngsters must know of them already. This would include CSN&Y. But maybe you’ve not encountered some of their solo work. This time, I want to cover a bit of Stephen Stills. Stills was a founding member of Buffalo Springfield (with Young) and has had a hard life of drugs, prison and survival. He brought some blues and Tex-Mex country to the music with his singing and guitar. Here follows a taste of both.
