This month, our tenderness has turned, and we’re taking a look at the Wario of love songs, the breakup song. Which homage to heartbreak reigns supreme? How do the breakups break down? The first edition of the Valentine’s Day Mixtape (crafted way back in 2006) was the very first mixtape ever posted here on ATG, and it’s taken many different forms ever since. As my music interests–and personal relationships–have evolved since then, so too have the mixes. The twee innocence of the first mix (see: The Postal Service, The Long Winters) and my high school self has transformed into more nostalgic choices (as evidenced by the FOUR cover songs on this 8th edition) and meaningful melodies.
As usual, we’ve got all of the previous Valentine’s Day Mixtapes available for download below, and we’ve got numero ocho available as a .zip and as individual MP3s. Summer isn’t officially upon us until tomorrow, but the weather and my wardrobe have already begun to reflect everyone’s favorite season. As the clothes get skimpier and the sweat stains get nastier, so changes our musical listening habits. Warm synths and breezy melodies are the flavors du jour, and with that, we present the All Things Go Endless Summer Mixtape. The mixtape is a collaborative effort between me and ATG staff writer Emma, which marks the first time that I’ve ceded any control of the song choices, so you know this mix is all sorts of amazing. Pop the Endless Summer Mix into your listening device of choice and head to the beach (or poolside), because you’re about to experience through-the-roof vibes for miles.

As a DJ, Devin Lucien has been a staple in the Los Angeles music scene and holds residencies at some of the most popular clubs in LA. In addition he plays throughout the US and appears monthly in NY, Miami, Las Vegas and more. He has also been brought out to Japan to spin at Le Baron de Paris. Devin has recently moved into the production side and has worked with numerous fashion brands and magazines – as well as consulting on films.

You gamers out there might remember the Nintendo game Castlevania where your mission was to slay vampires and other undead creatures. That was fun, wasn’t it? Well I’m not talking about that, but instead Atlanta native Dylan Eiland’s project, Le Castle Vania. What started off as a joke with some friends about creating a band after the video game stuck and now LCV is one of the most well-known electronic music producers in the game. Once upon a time Dylan might’ve been driving stakes through the hearts of the undead, but for the last twelve years he’s been destroying dance floors with his remixes and originals. I had the chance to talk to Dylan before he brings his energetic set to U Street Music Hall this Thursday for the tenth All Things Gold installment with Viceroy and Ghost Beach. The Valentine’s Day Mixtape is a tradition as old as ATG itself. The first edition was only the 10th post ever here at ATG HQ, and it has taken many shapes in the six years since. The only constant has been a seemingly endless supply of bubbly indie-pop and sugary sweet folk, mixed with a heavy dose of pure sexual energy. This year’s V-Day Mix has all the bases covered: let Bon Iver and Alexander do the crooning, Thao Nguyen & Coeur de Pirate can handle the innocent pop, and The Weeknd, Drake and Frank Ocean can handle the sex. Lots and lots and lots of sex.
As usual, the mix is available as individual tracks or in a .zip file below, along with the past six renditions. I’ll be sharing mine with my beautiful ladyfriend Emma, but you can share it with your loved one, your dog, your boss’s daughter, or Ryan Gosling. Or you can share it with her, but that could get uncomfortable.

The Weeknd is back with mixtape #3, Echoes Of Silence. The group, fronted by Abel Tesfaye, said they’d be dropping something this Fall. Well, technically it’s still Fall for another couple hours. Coachella line-up should be coming out soon and I am putting my money on The Weeknd in a sunset slot in the Outdoor Theater.
