Electric Guest – This Head I Hold

Kostroma is a Russian district located 400 kilometres north-east of Moscow. The small village of Karavaeva, located on the outskirts of the region, is known for its ethnic dance traditions that date back many centuries. What they are not known for is having a strong internet connection; it’s rather unlikely they’ve streamed the Daft Punk album or are all caught up on Game of Thrones. So imagine one documentary crew’s astonishment when they decided to dance to Electric Guest‘s “This Head I Hold” for their first ever Youtube documented performance. Check out the result above in what the band has adopted as their second music video for the track.

Fenech-Soler – Magnetic

Fenech-Soler reveal lofty aspirations on new single “Magnetic.” The third track to emerge off their upcoming LP, Rituals – following the explosive “All I Know” and sprawling “Maiyu” — “Magnetic” showcases the Northamptonshire quartet’s electro-pop wizardry at its most chart-worthy, launching into arena-ready choruses that would probably catch Mr. Guetta’s ear. Watch the video for the track above and keep an eye out for Rituals, out September 2nd via Warner Bros.

12 Years of DFA

Red Bull Music Academy put together an incredibly impressive video called “Too Old To Be New, Too New To Be Classic,” a short look at the history and personality of DFA Records. It’s a lovely collection or oral histories, cheeky one-liners (like James Murphy asserting that peanut butter is the greatest American flavor) and “I’m so glad they captured that” photos and videos.

Marc Maron earnestly narrates the whole thing, which is exceptionally edited to highlight both the impressiveness of the record label and the essential charisma of everyone involved. If you’re in the DFA fanbase, which they describe as “European vinyl nerds” and “a lot of really dorky white people,” then you’ll love taking 12 minutes out of your day to watch this.

Flight Facilities – I Didn’t Believe (Ft. Elizabeth Rose)

Aussie duo Flight Facilities are known for their disco-tinged sound, a deep-rooted appreciation of music history (as showcased by their all-spanning decade mixes for triple j) and patience in production that is simply unmatched in the current state of Soundcloud overload. Their Claude Debussy inspired “Clair De Lune” took them a year of work before release. It’s hypnotic, beautiful and complex – drawing from a place few artists in the electronic music world tap into these days.

Flight Facilities’ latest single, “I Didn’t Believe”, flows from a similar vein, though the sound couldn’t be more different. Taking over two years to produce, “I Didn’t Believe” sports a funky bassline, flickering guitar chords, uplifting disco strings and vocals from Elizabeth Rose that would’ve sounded right at home on 2001 Odyssey’s dancefloor. While it may be a little while before another original production comes out from these two, “I Didn’t Believe” should keep you satisfied for some time.

“I Didn’t Believe” is available via Future Classic/Glassnote Entertainment.

Du Tonc – Surging Memories

Du Tonc – the new disco-pop group consisting of Mighty Mouse and Matt Van Schie (Van She) – have followed up the well-received “Darkness” with their sophomore single, “Surging Memories.” The track echoes some of the themes of “Darkness” and seamlessly mates Van She’s pop rock sensibilities with Mighty Mouse’s disco-laden production. Paced by a warm bassline, uplifting chord progressions, Van Schie’s dreamy vocals and light disco strings, “Surging Memories” further establishes this new pairing as something worth following. Fortunately for us, Du Tonc have begun to announce tour dates for this summer and intend to release more music before the end of May. Stream it below.

Du Tonc’s “Surging Memories” is available now on Cheap Thrills.

INTRODUCING: Say Yes Dog

sayyesdog

Say Yes Dog are looking to get a slice of that balearic pie. Hailing from exotic Luxembourg, the trio’s funky brand of band-backed nu-disco pop sounds like a cross between Hot Chip and just about the entire Future Classic (Classixx, Flight Facilities, Panama) roster. Their latest single, “Get It,” is a fantastic primer on their style. Stream it below and stay tuned for their debut EP later this year.

Empire Of The Sun – Alive

Considering how cinematic their album teaser was, anything short of a sci-fi epic for an Empire of the Sun music video would be a disappointment. Thankfully, the Sydney duo doesn’t let us down in their video for “Alive,” the debut single off their sophomore album, Ice On The Dune. Follow Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore as they traverse the most epic of biomes, awakening slumbering future babes along the way. Confused? Just watch it above.

PREMIERE: Silverstar – Music Is Magic

On the 31st of December 2012, after decades of sending radio waves into space, astronomers received a strange signal from the Alpha Centauri system. What at first appeared to be a random stream of tones and pulses gradually resolved into a complex pattern, that while alien, seemed eerily familiar. Dubbed “Silverstar” the signal was sent to research teams worldwide, for further analysis.

…or so goes Silverstar‘s bio, a two-man production team hailing from down under. The Australian duo’s debut single, “Music Is Magic,” is just about everything you can ask for in dance music. Sure to satisfy everyone from the occasional indie convert to the most devout of nu-disco disciples, Silverstar’s first jump into the scene is a slice of synth and sample heaven. And don’t forget to check out the video for the track — directed by Tim White and filmed on location in Morocco — above.
