Friendly Fires are back this year with a new album, Pala, due out May 16th. Hailing originally from Hertfordshire, England, Friendly Fires first burst onto the indie rock scene in 2008 with a poppy fusion of punk funk and a solid self-titled full-length debut. I was immediately drawn to the Friendly Fires, not because they were complex, layered, sophisticated, or especially unique, but because they were fun. Their disco-esque drum machine beats, dabbles in shoegaze guitar, and affection for hooky choruses, reminded of why I loved the synth-saturated decade, the 1980′s: The Cure, “Girls On Film,” new wave, Pretty In Pink, etc, it doesn’t get better than that. Judging by Friendly Fire’s first single off of Pala, it seems the band choose to stick with the same infectious formula. So without further adieu, here’s “Live Those Days Tonight,” along with a couple of my favorites from their first record. Enjoy.
