Foster the People is following up the success of “Pumped Up Kicks” with a video for their new single, “Helena Beat”. In this post-apocalyptic mini-epic of a video, the band gives us their vision for a pop-filled, child-gang future. As frontman Mark Foster put it, It’s “Lord of the Flies meets Mad Max” (without the conch or Mel Gibson). The band is forced to entertain the hordes, faces various forms of torture at the hands of ten year olds, and features the obligatory random act of breakdancing. The video is bold, bleak and I am not quite sure it fits in with the electro-pop tune, but it definitely gets you on the edge of your chair as the song builds up that infectious beat.  It’s definitely interesting, definitely creepy, and definitely the beginning of something big. Whatever that may be, we’ll just have to wait for their next release to find out.
