Everything Everything – Cough Cough
Although hardly lacking in musical talent, Manchester’s Everything Everything have always sought to outdo themselves on the visual front. Their videos — like the quirky treatment for “Photoshop Handsome” and the focus-happy “Final Form” — aren’t afraid to push production boundaries and have attracted the acclaim of tech-savvy outfits like Wired Magazine.
Everything Everything’s latest single, “Cough Cough,” proves to be no exception. Debuting yesterday on Huw Stephens, the track rides on the same experimental pop and lyrical freneticism that made their debut full-length, Man Alive, so memorable. The accompanying black-and-white video has no problem matching that, flashing between the band beating on giant timpanis, being tube-fed sludgy black liquid, and vintage scenes of civil unrest, among other things. It’s an eclectic mix of clips, but an eye-catching one nonetheless.
“Cough Cough” will appear on Everything Everything’s sophomore album, Arc, which is set for a January 14th, 2013 release via RCA Victor.
