With the Jewish High Holidays right around the corner, now is a great time to work on your Israeli indie pop game. Canadian-born, Israeli singer-songwriter Emily Karpel‘s single “Osher” (also known as “Happiness” or “אושר”) is an addictive track whether you absorbed anything from Hebrew school or not. Take one part Gotye, one part Goldfrapp, and stir with The Knife. Buy it on Bandcamp along with the rest of her album II, or stream it below.
The song’s music video illustrates the transcontinental appeal of animal suits. It’s an eerie narrative in which Karpel plays a revolutionary who takes down a V for Vendetta party with perfect finger curls. At least, that’s what I got out of it. Watch it above.
