I thought that Ellie Goulding‘s decision to date Skrillex — and not myself — would lead to her venturing into more experimental and aggressive electronic territory, but she seems to have head the other way with “Anything Could Happen.” Gone are the genre-bending beats of “Guns And Horses” or “Black And Gold.” Instead, Ellie has embraced her meteoric rise to pop-stardom, due in large part to her late breakout with “Lights.”
While the original “Anything Could Happen” relied on a simple synth-pop beat and catchy hook, London DJ/producer Alex Metric, who has been on a tear lately with his remix of St. Lucia’s “September,” isolates the vocal track and lets it build in tandem with a frantic synth line until a full-on dance party ensues. The original song takes a backseat to the neo-house rework. That is, until the 4:30 mark, when Alex brings in an impressive re-building of the original beat that ends in a straight out synth celebration. Stream Alex Metric’s Ellie remix (along with the aforementioned St. Lucia one) below.
Ellie Goulding’s Halcyon is set for an October 5th release via Polydor.
