Fresh off the heels of July’s acclaimed Swing Lo, Magellan, Dirty Projectors have leaked the track “While You’re Here” from its upcoming About To Die EP. Spanning just over two minutes, the short but sweet track is a string-laden, orchestral tribute to a fallen friend. Dirty Projectors’ frontman Dave Longstreth revealed on Twitter that he wrote the song for Gerard Smith, the late TV On The Radio bassist who died in April 2011 of lung cancer. The song is beautiful and complex, as we’ve come to expect from DP tracks, and it’s easy to see why the homage would have seemed out of place on the funky Swing Lo, Magellan. Any excuse for new Dirty Projectors music is alright in my book.

The About To Die EP, which will include three additional new songs, is set to drop November 6th via Domino Records.
