Clubfeet are a Melbourne-based indie dance group, joining the formidable ranks of Aussie compatriots like Cut Copy, Miami Horror, Architecture in Helsinki and Empire of the Sun. The band made waves with its critically acclaimed 2010 album, Gold on Gold, and more recently the oft-remixed anthem “City of Light.”

If their new single “Heartbreak” is any indication, Clubfeet’s upcoming sophomore album, Heirs & Graces, is likely to be the their best work yet. Like Savoir Adore’s Dreamers EP, this song reminds me of guilty pleasure 90s alt-folk in the style of the Cranberries and (dare I say) Sixpence None the Richer, although it’s far less cheesy than those comparisons might imply. There are hints of Belle & Sebastian and Stone Roses in there too. Aussie singer Chela, who was featured on Goldroom’s summer anthem “Fifteen,” provides some dulcet vocals. If you enjoy reverby surf guitar runs, downtempo syncopated drums and sugary choruses, this song is for you.

Heirs & Graces is set for release on January 22 via Plant Music/Illusive.
