LA-based production duo Oliver has been on our radar recently and has crafted another hit with their remix of Childish Gambino’s “Heartbeat.” I’ve never given Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, a good listen before, mostly because I’m the biggest skeptic whenever hip-hop flirts with electro. I’m also ardently devoted to Spank Rock and shun all others as imitators, which is probably not a good stance to take when listening to new music. This remix, however, has definitely made me take a second look at CG and I’m not disappointed. The original “Heartbeat” features yearnful lyrics over a Justice-esque electronic beat. Oliver slows it down and makes the track funky by adding a dirty bass line. Both Childish Gambino and Oliver are coming off hot releases, so I’m excited to see what 2012 has in store for both Camps. Pun intended.
