The first edition of the Valentine’s Day Mixtape (crafted way back in 2006) was the very first mixtape ever posted here on ATG, and it’s taken many different forms ever since. As my music interests–and personal relationships–have evolved since then, so too have the mixes. The twee innocence of the first mix (see: The Postal Service, The Long Winters) and my high school self has transformed into more nostalgic choices (as evidenced by the FOUR cover songs on this 8th edition) and meaningful melodies.

As usual, we’ve got all of the previous Valentine’s Day Mixtapes available for download below, and we’ve got numero ocho available as a .zip and as individual MP3s. Summer isn’t officially upon us until tomorrow, but the weather and my wardrobe have already begun to reflect everyone’s favorite season. As the clothes get skimpier and the sweat stains get nastier, so changes our musical listening habits. Warm synths and breezy melodies are the flavors du jour, and with that, we present the All Things Go Endless Summer Mixtape. The mixtape is a collaborative effort between me and ATG staff writer Emma, which marks the first time that I’ve ceded any control of the song choices, so you know this mix is all sorts of amazing. It’s that time of year again, and with the music portion of SXSW kicking off this week we find it only fitting to highlight some of the best artists rolling through Austin this year. The Valentine’s Day Mixtape is a tradition as old as ATG itself. The first edition was only the 10th post ever here at ATG HQ, and it has taken many shapes in the six years since. The only constant has been a seemingly endless supply of bubbly indie-pop and sugary sweet folk, mixed with a heavy dose of pure sexual energy. This year’s V-Day Mix has all the bases covered: let Bon Iver and Alexander do the crooning, Thao Nguyen & Coeur de Pirate can handle the innocent pop, and The Weeknd, Drake and Frank Ocean can handle the sex. Lots and lots and lots of sex.

As usual, the mix is available as individual tracks or in a .zip file below, along with the past six renditions.  I’ll be sharing mine with my beautiful ladyfriend Emma, but you can share it with your loved one, your dog, your boss’s daughter, or Ryan Gosling. Or you can share it with her, but that could get uncomfortable.

It’s been a strange few weeks of weather here in Washington, with chilly breezes and seemingly endless showers signaling that Fall is officially upon us. It’s time to reluctantly toss those shorts and flip-flops in the closet in favor of sweaters and corduroys, and time to put the shimmery Summer anthems on the back burner in favor of some more subdued cold-weather melodies.

This Autumn has been marked by grey skies and constant rain. These conditions tend to throw me into an introspective mood, reflected in my music listening. Artists like The Album Leaf, Jose Gonzalez, Bon Iver, etc. get put on heavy rotation. With that in mind, I present the All Things Go Rainy Day Mixtape. The mix is a balance of old(ish) and new, with contributions from stalwarts such as Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, and Sufjan Stevens, in addition to tracks from newcomers No Ceremony and Coeur De Pirate. Also, what mixtape would be complete without a Frank Ocean appearance? Not a good one, that’s what.

Summer has been upon us for over a month now, and, if you’re a resident of D.C. like we are, it’s been a brutal one. Record setting temperatures have left me sticking to backs of chairs and taking an abnormal amount of showers. It hasn’t been all bad though, as the season brings about a change in my listening habits. Quiet introspective folk takes a back seat to shimmery Summer synths and just plain feel-good music.

April is here and, as of yesterday, spring is fully upon us in here in the Nation’s capital. Let’s ignore today’s depressing rainy weather and pretend like this came out yesterday, when the Cherry Blossoms were in full bloom, the sun was out, and temperatures jumped into the 80s. I broke out the flip flops and shorts to class, and it was that time of year when you beg your professors to let you have class outside, even though they know it will lead to a complete lack of productivity.

This time of year triggers a change in my music listening. Wintry folk goes into hibernation while uplifting synths and warm melodies are finally pulled out of the closet. The 2011 ATG Spring Mixtape is a true representation of this, with a mixture of older (Mazarin, Flosstradamus, Stars) and newer (Alex Winston, Yelle, Donora) that, I believe, are the perfect accompaniment to a beautiful spring day. Valentine’s Day is here again folks. I’d go into details about my own personal life and experiences on this special day, but honestly that’s both boring and useless; you’re here for the music. I’m happy to oblige with our sixth installment of the Valentine’s Day Mixtape, the oldest tradition we have here at ATG. This year, I’ve tried to lean more towards newer stuff, since in past years these mixes have relied heavily on Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones, etc.. As usual, the mixtape is available as a .zip file or as individual tracks below, and this year I have a very special treat: I have re-uploaded all of the older mixes, so you can download those below as well (not individual tracks though, because that would take forever and I have some semblance of a life, you know?)
