2009′s Catacombs put Cass McCombs on the musical map, for me at least. His deftly executed indie-interpretation of folk, white soul, and blues were addictive. Simultaneously whimsical, wistful, and weary, his songs offer hope and malaise all at once. His newest release, Wit’s End, due out on the 26th, promises to further explore and expand on these previous thematics. Opening track “Country Line” proves McCombs hasn’t lost his knack for slowly-lilting, sadly-swooning alt-country-soul.

Warning: this is not for dance parties! Please employ these songs when daydreaming under the clouds in open grass fields. Don’t be shy. Go on and test out these tracks–new and old–and enjoy.

Also included below is “Harmonia,” my favorite track from his previous record, Catacombs. Please notice the incredible slide guitar work and adept finger picking. Also, listen for the tinge of Mariachi in the closing seconds. So good.
