Gobble Gobble, the avant-electro pop moniker of Cecil Frena, is no more.  Frena now goes by Born Gold and announced the release of his debut LP, Bodysongs, on Hovercraft, his very own label.

Besides it’s pioneering style of electronic music, Gobble Gobble is also well-known for birthing Purity Ring.  Born Gold is pop in the most unconventional sense, as  it is bouncy, and even dancey in a weird, glitchy way.  ”Decimate Everything” reminds me of the auditory version of pointillism. Up close, the image seems marred by competing colors, but once you step back, the underlying message is revealed.  Born Gold nearly obscures the pop melody underneath the anxious and hyper chopped up beat, but it is brought together by reading between the lines. Yes, it can sound pretty weird upon first listen, and maybe even unpalatable. But sometimes it’s good to be a little uncomfortable.
