Bastille have been setting an almost untoppable track record for covers. From Miley’s “We Can’t Stop” to City High’s “What Would You Do?,” they nail that delicate cover balance of homage and ownership every time. Their latest, a cover of Cutting Crew’s “(I Just) Died In Your Arms,” joins the family as a complete knock-out. The track is decidedly Bastille but still oozing with late ’80s dark synth and sex metaphor (for those of you also not paying attention in high school French, the word for orgasm, “la petite mort,” literally translates to “little death”). The cover is part of a 40th anniversary album Virgin Records (uncoincidentally Bastille’s label) just released, and from the looks of the track list, “(I Just) Died In Your Arms” is in very, very good company.
