Banks – Warm Water

banks

Posting something other than Daft Punk today may be futile, but we can’t ignore “Warm Water,” the latest track to come from L.A. singer Banks. Featuring production credits from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, “Warm Water” is deep, dark and a little bit lusty. One of electronic music’s most diversely talented producers, T.E.E.D. lays the vocals in a soft bed of sound — made of warm, ambient chords and sedate drums — that allows Banks’ vocals to take center stage. Stream it below.

“Warm Water” will be released May 27th on Good Years Recordings.

Flight Facilities – I Didn’t Believe (Ft. Elizabeth Rose)

Aussie duo Flight Facilities are known for their disco-tinged sound, a deep-rooted appreciation of music history (as showcased by their all-spanning decade mixes for triple j) and patience in production that is simply unmatched in the current state of Soundcloud overload. Their Claude Debussy inspired “Clair De Lune” took them a year of work before release. It’s hypnotic, beautiful and complex – drawing from a place few artists in the electronic music world tap into these days.

Flight Facilities’ latest single, “I Didn’t Believe”, flows from a similar vein, though the sound couldn’t be more different. Taking over two years to produce, “I Didn’t Believe” sports a funky bassline, flickering guitar chords, uplifting disco strings and vocals from Elizabeth Rose that would’ve sounded right at home on 2001 Odyssey’s dancefloor. While it may be a little while before another original production comes out from these two, “I Didn’t Believe” should keep you satisfied for some time.

“I Didn’t Believe” is available via Future Classic/Glassnote Entertainment.

Du Tonc – Surging Memories

Du Tonc – the new disco-pop group consisting of Mighty Mouse and Matt Van Schie (Van She) – have followed up the well-received “Darkness” with their sophomore single, “Surging Memories.” The track echoes some of the themes of “Darkness” and seamlessly mates Van She’s pop rock sensibilities with Mighty Mouse’s disco-laden production. Paced by a warm bassline, uplifting chord progressions, Van Schie’s dreamy vocals and light disco strings, “Surging Memories” further establishes this new pairing as something worth following. Fortunately for us, Du Tonc have begun to announce tour dates for this summer and intend to release more music before the end of May. Stream it below.

Du Tonc’s “Surging Memories” is available now on Cheap Thrills.

Classixx – Borderline

classixx

LA-duo Classixx continue to stoke interest for their upcoming debut album, Hanging Gardens, with another excellent track, “Borderline”. Subdued, shy and somewhat melancholic, “Borderline” plays the emotional counterpart of A-side “Holding On,” fading pensively where “Holding On” jumps up and shakes. Steady, plucking synths provide a warm but distant background for Jesse Kivel’s (Kisses) vocals, which match the environment perfectly.

Hanging Gardens will be released via Innovative Leisure May 14th, though “Hanging On” and “Borderline” are available as a single on iTunes now.

Miguel – Do You (Cashmere Cat Remix)

Magnus August Høiberg, better known as Cashmere Cat, gives Miguel‘s drugs, hugs and love song, “Do You…,” the remix treatment. Opening with his distinct, plucking arpeggios and snippets of Miguel’s distant, floating inquisitions, CC’s remix transforms the original song from a funky, soulful ballad into a futuristic hip-hop track. The Norwegian producer has drawn comparison to some of electronic music’s new era of hip-hop and bass artists — including Rustie, Hudson Mohawke, and TNGHT — and this remix showcases exactly why. Vibrant, almost impossibly lush walls of sound, skittering snares, warped vocals and bombastic low end combine into a unique sound that might not have been named yet (aquacrunk…really??), but is undeniable in its draw. Download the remix below.

Ellie Goulding – Without Your Love (Amtrac Remix)

Amtrac continues his rise to the forefront of electronic music, this time remixing Ellie Goulding‘s “Without Your Love.” The original song begins with a brief but grandiose piano intro, before yielding to an urgent drumline and Ellie’s unmistakable vocals. Amtrac’s take adds pitched down vocals, a buzzing undercurrent and a steady kick drum, transforming “Without Your Love” from a sweeping power pop song to a dark, late night dance track. Several of Amtrac’s distinct touches are present – glitchy vocal splices, rollicking bass synths and steady buildups that give way to grooving dance beats.

Nike and Goulding have teamed up on a pair of shoes, as well as a collection of remixes from her latest album, Halcyon, in support of the upcoming Washington D.C. Women’s Half Marathon April 28th. Download Amtrac’s remix and the rest of the compilation here.

Touch Sensitive – Show Me

touch

Australia’s Touch Sensitive is set to release his debut EP, Pizza Guy, following the strength of last year’s superb collaboration with Anna Lunoe, “Real Talk.” The B-side, “Show Me,” is another strong showing from the up-and-coming producer, who, frankly, has yet to put out anything disappointing. Glistening strings, a driving kick drum, gently plodding bass and some glossy vocal samples combine into a warm, slow motion disco ballad that is perfect for starting off your day (or wrapping up your night).

Pizza Guy will be released by Future Classic on vinyl April 15th, with electronic download available later this year. In the meantime, stream “Show Me” below.

Viceroy & French Horn Rebellion – Friday Nights

Viceroy-x-French-horn-Rebellion

Viceroy has paired up with multitalented duo French Horn Rebellion on a shimmering, summery track that will undoubtedly brighten up your Monday. “Friday Nights” features Viceroy’s upbeat, bouncing production with French Horn Rebellion’s party-starting vocals. The Perlick-Molinari brothers lament how their “baby” is never there for them on Friday nights, despite hanging out during the week. The somewhat downbeat lyrics are overpowered by Viceroy’s tropical production; glimmering synth stabs, a rubbery bassline and straightforward breakdowns combine into an undeniably catchy pop track.

“Friday Nights” will get remix treatments from the likes of Rush Midnight, Bronx and Jessie Andrews, and will be released as an EP. For the time being, though, you can grab a download in exchange for a tweet here. Or just stream it below.

Ghost Loft – So High

ghost-loft-500x500

Los Angeles-based producer Danny Choi, better known as Ghost Loft, has followed up his recent Seconds, with another great production, “So High”. “Seconds”, which was remixed by the likes of Ta-ku and The Neighbourhood‘s Jesse Rutherford, is a brooding tune that walks the line between R&B and indie dream pop, and “So High” further cements the sound. The song mates twinkling chords and melodies with dark, deep reverb, detached vocals, and airier synths. Crisp snares and an offset kick-drum add a bedroom hip hop feel, present in a handful of Ghost Loft’s other productions.

“So High” will be available on his debut EP, as well as the Kitsune America 2 Compilation later this month. In the meantime, stream “So High” below.

James Blake – Retrograde (Finn Pilly Edit)

James Blake made waves last month with the announcement of his next album, Overgrown, along with the premiere of its first single, “Retrograde”. As the release draws near, covers and bootleg remixes from the album are appearing on the internet in droves. Few of these, however, will be able to top Norwegian producer Finnebassen‘s take on “Retrograde.” Making use of Blake’s distinct vocal etchings, Finnebassen (as alter ego Finn Pilly) adds a downtempo dance beat to transform the single into a grooving, deep house track. The edit, nearly nine minutes in length, patiently crests in several places, only to softly slink back down to the original’s core. Have a listen and grab the free download below.

James Blake’s Overgrown will drop April 8th via Altas/Republic Records.
